The man behind History's Bricks.
History's Bricks itself is a Public History project which shows and discusses historical dioramas, elements, topics with and by LEGO bricks in an exciting and responsible way. History's Bricks has launched by Benjamin Franz. He has studied History at the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich. In this project we want to focus on two essential issues:
1) Creating our own historical interpretations with LEGO bricks
2) Discussing historical presentations made out of LEGO bricks
We see the advantages that the LEGO medium brings with it. With its worldwide fame and extraordinary popularity, it has a lot of potential in conveying and awakening enthusiasm for historical topics. You can build anything with those little bricks and we see that a lot of people like to build history related things. Also you need to engage in depth with your topic to create a convincing historical build.
Therefore we try to do our own historical LEGO bricks creations to use the chances of an public entertaining and challenging history.
As we said many people like to build history related Mocs with LEGO bricks. So we want to ask the questions: What do they show? And how is it staged? The question is how The LEGO Group (TLG) actually presents history to us and what kind of influences it has on our own builds.
So t's not just the The LEGO Group that will be the subject of our researches. A central topic is the community. We ask how these people represent history with their models. Which topics are presented in which way and how? Which topics are forgotten or not dealt with? What do so-called third party companies do? How do they promote their historical products? And many, many more questions.
This is an approach to what we call "legostudies". LEGO has become a very important medium in our day and age and it's time to focus on it. Everyone knows the medium. Almost everyone can relate to it. This has a strong meaning. So we wonder how LEGO bricks represent social aspects and debates but also how it even construct or fortify them.
Finally we would like to thank you for visiting my website. This is a heart project, which we wanted to realize for some time and you can be a part of it.
